Porter-Cable 7346SP vs Porter-Cable 7424XP

Great product for the price!!! A must have for every car buff.
I bought this highly rated dual-action sander/polisher for polishing weathered paint on personal cars, trucks, and boats. With some experimenting with polishes, sealant or wax, and pads I have my cars and boat looking great with a minimum of effort. DIY detailing, done right.
This polisher has more orbital power and won't burn your auto paint job. Haven't used it as a sander... doubt I will. There are several YouTube how to videos that show how to use it if you're interested.
I have been a wood worker for 44 years this sander does not hold up well in shop conditions. The old style held up better.I PURCHASED ONE AND IT LASTED 4 MONTHS RETURNED IT THE NEXT ONE LASTED 4 MONTHS THIS MORNING IT STOPPED WORKING . I have two old style sanders and they are still in service just...
very easy to use.very light yet powerfull does a great job on both my cars.i used it on my fridge it came out great.
Great machine for developing fast jobs, used with all wax and compound
Easy to use, good power for the price. I use it to sand epoxy so it's perfect, I have yet to use it on wood but believe it will be a good finishing tool.
Very nice use to do auto finishing does super job ,,will also buy dust adapter for clean sanding
Great piece of equipment. I know I'll have it for a long time.
great orbital sander. the buffer pad that came with it I used to "polish" some dull headlight covers and made a mistake of wetting the pad (sponge) and free spinning the disk trying to get some of the water out, the water in the sponge was forced to one side and it exploded, half of the pad rocketed...
110% happy with the Porter Cable 7424XP works better than I ever thought because I have not had good history with buffers. Would buy again. Use to polish camper, work was excellent looks new. Recommend to anyone looking for a polisher.
This tool is the foundation for a show car shine. Admittedly, I spent a fair amount on quality polishes and pads, but this is what you need to use. It did not and would not damage the paint finish. It is powerful and controllable. Get this and spend some time surfing for how to polish swirls out - y...
Easy to use, powerful and light. Perfect for DIY or pro.
Speed control and power are good. Be prepared to purchase a hook and loop (velcro) backing plate and pads to make the most of the machine. This will cost at least another $100.
I had a 10" polisher for several years, which has been ok, but I wanted something with a little more power and quality, so after some research, I chose the PC 7424XP.
I've tried so many product and read alot of review before I bought this polisher. So far this one is the best one. It doesn't burn the paint of the car and not much vibration compare to other i've used. If your purpose to buy this product to wax car like myself then you won't regret. One important t...
The size, variable speed, pad size flexibility and random orbital motion make it ideal for buffing/polishing big and small areas especially with varying surfaces.
The Porter-Cable 7424XP is an excellent buffer. I have been polishing my cars by hand for a number of years and this buffer not only simplifies the job, but also yields a professional like result. With different pad options and instructional videos available online, it is easy to do an extremely goo...
I like the variable speed option, very user friendly and easy to use.
Despite no prior experience, I was able to watch a couple of videos on YouTube and achieve professional results with this buffer.
Questions & Answers
Does this perform as an automobile polisher different from the 7424XP model?
Can’t say exactly but I bought mine for the sole purpose of polishing vehicles and it works phenomenally. It only comes with a singular pad for polishing that won’t take much use and another for sanding, as far as I could figure out that’s the only difference.
they are both the same sander the xp model is sold as a polisher only with no 6" DA sanding pad for sanding, but you can still buy the 6" DA sanding pad from your local auto body supply shop that sells auto body paint to bodyshops in the 6" stick on pad or the 6" velcro stick on pad for the 6" sand papers grits
What is the lowest and highest speed
This runs at 2500-6800 OPM.
1000rpm to 6000rpm
1 would be the lowest speed and 10 would be the highest speed
Does it come with a backer plate for the polisher? Is the polisher hook & loop?
The 7346SP includes a backing pad. The pad is not hook and loop, it is a PSA pad.
Yes there is a back plate and no it's not hook and loop I took the backplate off so as to have more adversity and sticky pads are much better than hook and loop
No, it has one thick polishing pad that won’t hold up to much use. I ordered a hook and loop backing plate and several different pads from another company
this white pad is attached to a black backing plate that screws on to the sander its like the european style of buffing very easy to use
