I am a hand-tool kind of guy. By that I mean powerless, good ol' hand tools. I have had my grandfather's hand planes for years and sharpen them by hand with waterstones. I always scoffed at power planers. Well, then came the need to take years of paint off two 46' wood sailboat masts. I was going t...

I am very happy with this planer, it has enough power to plane oak planks that I milled last year; it gets the job done. My only complaint so far is that it does not zero out, the blade does not retract all the way, so I am always cutting. This 7.5 amp model was not available in the store. When deli...

I wish I would have spent more to get a real planer. The fence is not solid and is a joke. One has to be careful when holding the front knob bucause it is also the depth adjustment. A grip should be just that.

After looking at several hand planers the Makita looked to be better made than others. I have used this planer for working down rough sawn white oak that is to big and heavy to go through my 12" floor planer. So far I love this hand planer and hope it gives me many years of service.

I bought this planer to replace another which had a severe defect, and was somewhat disappointed to find this one had issues as well. It would cut a swath on the left side only on a flat board when set to zero. After several attempts at adjusting the knives, I determined that the edge of one carbide...

Done a lot of research on this planer before I brought it. I just about pulled the trigger on a dewalt. Dewalt is cheaper but this one had a little more power and I also liked the guide which dewalt didnt have. I have only used it once on 3/4 plywood and I was amazed how fast it cut a 1/4 x 3 inch w...

This was purchased for a single operation it ran for about an hour and saved me about 9 to 10 hours. So i am quite pleased.

Works great so far. Only used it a little bit. Arrived on time and reasonably priced.

An excellent tool. Easy to connect a vacume.

The Planer worked well as long as the machine is used parallel to the work surface, if the planer is used at a 90 degree angle to the work surface the belt housing impedes the use. For example if you plan on using the machine mid board.

This like all Makita tools I own, works great. My only complaint is that it doesn't come with a dust collector, so shavings go everywhere.

Although the instrument works ok the lack of shavings collection ability makes it more trouble than it is worth. l have tried to locate the proper accessories for this purpose but this too is way to much trouble. Even if you could locate the bag and adapter for it the cost represents almost 25% of t...

I was making deep cuts over wood containing a significant number of knots. The planer didn't falter or chatter at all. This was a great purchase!

I kind of laughed off MIKEs comments about the difficulty of purchasing a dust bag for this. Then I tried to buy one. It is very difficult. When I finally did find one to buy, I found out later it would need an adaptor for it? So I have no dust bag for this. I am reluctant to use it now. It does wo...

Well, the planer itself works great! But like everyone else and further research, the product needs a dust bag! And like everyone else, why hasn't Makita include it with the product??? Other than that, nice machine

I had to trim 17 interior doors, I was going to run these through a table saw but thought there had to be an easier way to take 1/4 inch off the edge (long side) This product performed flawlessly, it trimmed all 17 doors without any mishaps :) It was easy to use and easily adjustable. I wish they co...

My first planer so admittedly I don't have much experience with other ones to compare it to, but it leave a perfectly smooth and straight surface on the boards that I used it on.

Great machine for a fair price. It is great for aggressive trimming, but it will take a while for me to learn when and where to use it. I imagine I'll learn to use this planer for the rough trimming and do the final trim to the line with a sander.

Good quality tool does what it was built to do for a reasonable price. No chip collection is a huge drawback. Tool throws chips everywhere making for a major shop cleanup task. Makita blew it by not including at least the chip collection adapter with tool. Adapter available on Amazon for $16. I will...

The planer has served its intended purpose wit no problems.

Where can I buy this with a case?

I was unable to find a case for this as well and went to Harbor Freight and purchased inexpensive tool box and cut foam pieces to fit around planer to "cradle" it.

No, this unit does not have any restrictions or guidelines on overheating.

What min size generator will i need for this tool?

This is a corded planer. Not sure what you mean about generator.

6.5 amps are equal to 780 watts at 120volts AC. so you'll need at least 800 Watts to 1000Watts peak power output. In KVA, you need 1 KVA generator.
