A lot of power and features for a trim router. Love the interchangeable bases.
this is one of the best router i ever use... its power full. easy to use, i was thinking about bosch unit but came back to dewalt i like the feel of this unit, it like having power in your hands. from san sebastian puerto rico thanks to home depole A+++
I haven't done very much woodworking so I believe this should be just right for learning a practicing.
Very nice piece of equipment. Smooth start and quiet. Accurate and well lit.
I needed to replace my very old Craftsman router as it was worn out after 30 years. The new router is so easy to adjust and control. I look forward to using the plunge base. Great price for all the features.
excellent features and performance does everything i expected no problem with service or shpping
Perfect for routing projects that don't need a larger router. Unit was only available online - great price and free shipping.
This is an excellent router and is now my favorite router. Excellent quality, great control when in the hand. Easily adjustable. I just wish it came with a centering tool for installing the base plates and the covered on/off switch could have a better "feel". These are minor issues. If you need to b...
Arrived very quickly. It works great. I am very pleased with it. I have several full sized routers. This is my first compact one and definitely was the right choice.
ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!!! IT IS THE BEST COMPACT ROUTER ON THE MARKET, HANDS DOWN. It does everything I need and more
This router has the whole package. It has plenty of power to cut through anything and the variable speed setting makes it very versatile for different materials. The soft start up feature is a bonus also. It can do everything a full size router can do in a compact size. Much easier to work with and...
Very powerful for its size great for the DIYer my old router was almost 10 years old and very heavy this is just as powerful as my old full size one but a quarter of the weight!
I am returning this to HD to buy just the router and fixed base combo. The plunge base will not stay engaged. You really have to bear down on the lever to get it to lock. If you try locking it with just your thumb it will not stay and the router will snap up. Only way I can see keeping the lever loc...
I find I am using this router more and more as the size is so easy to handle in smaller areas. The fit and of the two bases is so good that it is quick and easy to change them. I even started to take the router out of the base to change bits. The on of switch is in a convenient location for turning...
I sell my work for a living and have accumulated a few bulky routers and really needed a lighter weight version that was easy to handle with enough power to cut through dense wood cleanly. So far so good. I'm more than satisfied with this product so far. I like the one tool bit change option. The o...
A lot of fun to use and easy enough that my 9 yr old does projects with it.
Nice small hand held router...My first router and it does a good job with things like door hinges etc...Smooth running and nicely made...the depth adjustment could not be easier and comes with nice accessories...Just a note I am as mentioned just starting out with routing however worth pointing out...
I received the order in a very timely fashion. It is everything I was looking for. The router is powerful and fits in my hands well. It seems very well built. The reason I only gave it 4 stars is because some of the more expensive bits I have don't fit this router. I may have the added expense of bu...
I love this as I can do things without router table.
A very good trim router. I really like the variable speed option for soft starts, it's got more than enough power, feels "just right" while you're working and depth changes can be made very easily. I've only used the plunge collar twice, but it is more than adequate for what I had expected. Overa...
Questions & Answers
Is this compact router strong enough to cut dados and rabbets in cedar?
No, this is used more with a round-over bit, or mortising hinges, or trimming laminate.
Yes this will work for this application.
What is the issue you were encountering? (I realize this question is a few months late.) If you're doing dados and rabbets, you may need to make multiple passes of increasing depth if the motor is stalling. You might also see about some sharper or new router bits. If the issue is ragged edges, you might need to switch from a straight bit to a downcut router bit.
If you don't change out to a larger cutter it might work ok on small projects. The 1 1/4 hp motor doesn't seem strong enough to accomplish anything challenging such as oak or high density particle boards.
I've used mine in walnut, oak, cherry etc. without any issues.
Does this router accept the Porter Cable style guide bushing as is or do I have to buy an attachm...
The plunge base is equipped with a sub base for the Porter Cable template guides and will not require any additional attachments.
The conventional PC style bushings DO FIT the lunge base, but NOT the fixed base- the hole is too large, so you would need to make an accurate sub-base to hold the guide bushing.
does this model come with LED lights?
Yes. it has dual LED lights.
Yes there are two.
It certainly does, and they are nice to have.
Is there a dust collection adapter for curved edges?
The DNP616 is the vacuum adapter for the plunge base and DNP615 is for the fixed base.
No, I have not found any other types of dust collection adapters for the compact router.
No dust collector adapter
I believe there is.
No, must purchase separate.
There are no edge guides for curved edges you will have to create the curved edge guide. Is should be possible to create a curved guide and attach it to the commercial guide. For the Fixed Base there is a Dust Collection Adapter PN: DN615 and Edge Guide PN: DNP618, for the Plunge Base the Dust Collection Adapter PN: DNP616 and Edge Guide PN: DW6913. These are not standard stock items for most sales outlets so you will probably need to locate them on the Web.
Can I fix the router (without plunge base) under my router table to use for tasks that need both ...
You would have to custom make a router table to fit this unit as it is smaller than a typical router you would have attached to a table. Like most makita tools this thing does have plenty of power and the plunge base is awesome for carving out whatever you might be making. This thing is perfect for small projects and puts a nice profile on the edge of whatever type of stock you are working with ( 3-4 passes works the best) but for large projects you will need a bigger unit that will attach to a table.
IF you can do it, just make sure it is correctly installed
Thank you for your question. I would not recommend using without the plunge base. Yes, this should work for work on pine, fir, and redwood 2x4s.
I have never tried - not sure I would recommend putting this model under a router table. Guess it would depend on the table manufacturer. With my Router tables the companies recommend a larger router.
Yea you can fix it. It comes with a solid base too. It can handle pine and any hardwoods if you need it to.
Where can I get the straight edge guide for the plunge base? What is the part number? It is show ...
Thank you for your question. We recommend you contact your local Makita distributor. You can find your local Makita distributor by calling 1-(800)4-MAKITA, or at the “Services” link at www.makitatools.com. Please see model number 122965-7 Straight Guide.
Mine came with a straight edge attachment. Check with the local store and verify if they still come with the package.
Here is the part number, Makita 164834-6 Straight Guide Mine came with this part, but several online stores sell them.
Look it up on the internet it is called a Fine adjusting Side Base
Is this a good router for making signs?
Yes, I'm sure it is. You'll need a sign making jig kit to go along with it.
Thank you for your question. The RT0701CX7 1-1/4 HP* Compact Router Kit is an excellent woodworking tool and is equipped with many great features for use in wooden sign making.
Yes it great for making signs and much more I use it all the time am always building and use it to make my designs in my finish work
This is the first router I have ever used. I used it to replace custom cantilevered shelving that was lost when our kitchen was being redone. Very pleased with the results. I have no experience with making signs, but I can say that I am very happy with this router. (I have since used it for other home projects, and it's been great.)
With proper fence/guide and bits, it would be an excellent router.
