I table-mounted this unit for general routing applications. The setting features were easily accessed and operated just like advertised. With the installed spindle lock and a single wrench, bits were a breeze to change. I also operated this unit with the original face plate in guide-controlled appli...
Worked well for my router table. Easly to adjust and change bits.
I have three others and this one is better than two of them.
I do a lot of box and finger joints and having two of these routers is a plus. I owned two similar DeWalt routers for many years and they never failed me. I hope these new ones last as long. If you work with a dove tail jig I highly recommend the DeWalt DW618 router (s).
I haven't used it enough to give an honest performance review.
This was my second one of this model. The first burned up with smoke, arcing and an awful smell. So I took it back and got this. I am not sure if I misused the first one and caused the problem. I routed using a straight 3/8" bit about 3/4" deep a total of about 24 ft. I have since been advised that...
Changing the router bits with the lock make them eaiser to change.
I am a DIY'er and have used the router on a bookcase, for T&G on a barn door, and for let-in bracing on that door. I plan to make a tool chest and will use the router for T&G boards. This router was $25 more than the Craftsman I was thinking of purchasing, but after reading the reviews on the Crafts...
I would recommend this product to anyone. Easy to use 1/4" & 1/2" collets.
The router is dedicated to my homemade CNC router. The router I had was 1-1/4 HP and could not take heavy cuts or the speed the CNC is capable of. This one allows me to use 1/2" shank bits with larger diameters, plus more profiles than available in 1/4" shanks. The soft start and speed control are f...
I am very pleased with this router,I think it is awesome and well worth buying.
The router fits your hands and is set up with the on and off switch where you want it to be
Purchased as a backup for the other ones I am currently using. Swapping out like motors saves time on recalibrating.
great router. mounted in my router table to replace old less functional craftsman router
Very nice router, seems to have plenty of power.
This router performs well and is very easy to adjust the bit height
Woks fine as all my dewalt tools. Can count on dewalt tools it seems for quality and reliability. Will always try to buy dewalt when possible
Rating provided by a verified purchaser
I purchased this two weeks ago after my cheap Ryobi broke. It was a gift. I’ve always been a fan of Dewalt. It was easy to set up, the ergonomics are great, and this router makes quick work of any piece. I love it.
Questions & Answers
need table for this router
Most router tables - whether manufactured or DIY usually will fit your DEWALT router. The 1/2" (& 1/4")collet is the diameter of the router bit (shank) that fits into your DEWALT router. If the diameter of the cutting surface of any router bit fits into the diameter of the PLATE hole, you are good to go! Consider reviewing your operators router manual or get a book about using a router for more information.
can you use a .25 inch dia. collet and .50 inch collet
Yes, and the router is supplied with both collet sizes.
Mine came with a .250 and a .50 collet.
So this comes with a 1/2 and a 1/4 inch collet?
Two collets are included with the motor: one 1/4" (6.4mm) and one 1/2" (13mm).
Does this unit come with the edge guide shown in one of the pictures?
No. It does not come with an edge guide. It would be a great addition if it did.
No, the DW616 does not include an edge guide.
Mine did not come with the edge guide as show in the picture. FYI - the depth adjustment ring works great and makes it easy to make minor depth adjustments. Hope this helps!
can this be mounted to a router table?
Yes, just completed building my router table and finished mounting to my Rousseau mounting plate. There are many plate available for mounting as well as many plans to make your own. See photo. Note: when I mounted my plate, I did leave the clear guide on the base, so when I need to remove the base plate and use the stand alone router, I haven't lost the clear round plate that came with the router :) Very happy with the product
Yes, I mounted mine to a bench top router table without any problems!
Yes, even if you have to drill new holes in your router table plate, which I did and fits great.
